a boxer named winston donates his blood every few months to help save lives of other animals. when his owners first met him, he was seriously wounded, starving and infected, but he was nursed back to health. and because of this, his owners decided he could save the lives of other animals. >> he's doing very, very well, dogs and cats need blood just like we do in emergency situations. >> now, his blood most recently saved a 9-year-old yorkie who had lost blood during an operation. when you see this story, lynette, it makes complete sense. i mean, we donate blood for times of need, and like we said, a pint of blood can save three lives. an animal doing it just makes sense. >> it does make a lot of sense. you know what else makes a lot of sense? >> that we need a jacket. >> big coat. these temperatures are below average now. so we're dealing with very cold temperatures. we should be for -- for a low temperature we should be right around 38 degrees this time of the year and we're not getting that. so bundle up as you head out the door this morning. we can see what's going on, maryland's most powerful radar is nice and dry right now.

and we're going to stay that way. so we're not going to have a lot of change in terms of precipitation, what's going to be happening from the sky, but what we are going to be dealing with, the cold temperatures, so this is what we're starting out with when you head to the bus stop this morning, the kids really bundle them up. that temperature coming in at freezing. and as we go throughout the day, well, not warming up that much. these temperatures still below average. yes, we will have plenty of sunshine in the forecast, but when they're coming home from school, 49 degrees and still quite chilly outside. let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. definitely going to want to crank that heat and turn on the seat warmers this morning. we're off to a very cold start. water main break repairs do continue in mount vernon. madison street is now open. ku actually use that to turn left onto guilford avenue and take that downtown, but as the morning rush does start to pick up, you will want to expect congestion. use 83 or calvert street instead. here's what it looked like last night on madison street. actually, you can see the water running at the moment. that is no longer the case.

they've made major progress in the area. but it's still going to impact traffic for quite some time. and you are aware of last week's water main break about a mile away from the scene, north charles street. that's still a mess. it's the main shut down between main avenue and 21st street. your alternate routes to avoid the water main break delays are going to be calvert street and 83. if you are traveling on 83 right now, this morning, here's what it looks like just north of 695. no delays whatsoever. normal conditions, just 11 minutes right now to travel southbound from the beltway all the way to fayette street. and this is what 695 looks like over on the west side at liberty road. not too many cars out there just yet. you won't have any issues driving down towards route 40. that's a look at your abc 2 news time saver traffic. charley, over to you. aggressive driving, cars running into homes and deadly accidents. these are just some of the things people are saying about a stretch of road in baltimore county. coming up this morning at 5:00, what neighbors now want police and highway officials to do about this deadly stretch of road. also the multi-million

consumer news for you this morning. toyota is now recalling 2 million vehicles worldwide. the recall involves the prius hybrid due to a problem with the steering mechanism and a defective water pump. last month the company recalled 7 million vehicles for a faulty power window switch. no accidents, though, have been reported. he thought it was a prank when his car full of food vanished. why one deliveryman was stunned to find out that his customers did get their food. this is a story you'll want to hang around for. in a hospital. we'll have more on this breaking news out of reisterstown. and caught on camera, an mta bus turns into a ww wrestling ring. no joke. what happened in this fight between a driver and a passenger. and ocean city's iconic fishing pier no more than a pile of wood after sandy. what the mayor is giving to bring that pier back to life for tourists. those stories coming up on this wednesday, november 14th. good morning, maryland, i'm charley crowson. megan is off today. we begin with the check of the forecast where things are still cold out there. lynette, you called it. >> yes. and it's going to stay cold, charley. so don't think that we are going to start that warmup, not this week, maybe the week after that and also we'll have some rain towards the end. but as of now just enjoy the sunshine that we will be receiving once that sun comes up. but in the meantime you're heading out the door this morning, getting you out there, make sure you have the heavy coat. you can see that temperature in davidsonville, i'm not hiding it from you this morning, 33 degrees there. 31 degrees in ellicott city. we're below freezing across the area. woke up to some patchy frost in

a lot of spots this morning. and look at iamsville and fredrick, 26 degrees. fredrick also dealing with a little bit of patchy fog across that area as well. we look at maryland's most powerful radar after you now and -- as of now and we do have the sweeps on, not a whole lot to see, but we will be feeling those temperatures not so warm as we go into the afternoon. we can see what we have as we go into lunchtime, that temperature only around 46 degrees with plenty of sunshine in the forecast. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. i'm not ready for this cold weather. oh, my goodness. well, unfortunately water main breaks do continue in mount vernon today following the break on madison street. now, madison street has reopened. you're able to take that and make a left onto guilford avenue to get downtown. here's what it looks like, construction under way and that will continue today. they made major progress yesterday, but this is a 30- inch main, so it's going to take a little while to fix, but, again, the roadway will be reopened.

not so lucky, though, on north charles street. there was a break last week there and that does remain shut down from north avenue to 21st street. we, of course, will bring you the very latest developments on both breaks as they do develop. now, if you are traveling out on the roads this morning, this is what 95 looks like downtown at 395. traffic moving right along. there are no delays through the fort mchenry tunnel, harvard tunnel also going to be in great shape. as we take a look at the abc 2 news time saver traffic drive times, you'll notice no problems to report on the beltway. normal conditions, lech-minute ride right now on the outer loop from 95 all the way up to 83. no problems to report over on the west side. you're looking at an 11-minute ride as well from the outer loop from 795 down to 95. charley, over to you. 5:03. breaking news this morning out of baltimore county. a massive fire sends a woman to a hospital and destroys her reisterstown home. we know right now that woman in her 60s is currently in critical condition with burns to more than half of her body. you're looking at cell phone video from that fire. it happened around 1:00. you see the second floor of

this home completely destroyed. this is on blake court. the fire broke out once again right after 1:00 and quickly became a two-alarm fire. it took crews about 90 minutes to get things under control. they are now clearing the scene right now. we don't know how this fire started, but we do have a crew on the way to bayview. we'll have a live report for you when it becomes available. an mta bus driver has been sus pended after a fight between her and a young passenger, all of it caught on camera. that beating was recorded by a cell phone of another passenger, then posted to youtube. and this morning abc 2 news' linda stow is here with those details. linda, we've seen clips of this fight, i see it over your shoulder there. what led to this? >>reporter: well, the video does not show what actually happened before the fight, but when it was posted to youtube, it says the bus driver hit the young woman because her music was playing too loud. now that driver has been suspended while the mta investigates. take a look. it shows the driver punching and wrestling the girl to the back of the bus. mta officials say the girl is a student from a local school. the video shows the two

scuffling for more than a minute. when they finally separate, the driver says the girl was being disrespectful. the fight happened monday afternoon on the number 40 line bus near ploor and packa streets. mta police are investigating the incident. >> if an operator feels like they are in some kind of physical danger to themselves, then and only then are they allowed to engage a customer, but under no circumstance do we condone an operator fighting with a passenger. >>reporter: now, the mta since 2003. she's been removed from service while the agency investigating. mta police have been in contact with the girl to get her side of the story. linda stow, abc 2 news. a man working the late shift at a taco bell remains in the hospital this morning after two masked men shot him. now police are offering a $2000 reward for information leading to those gunmen. this happened outside the colombia taco bell sunday.

two employees inside called 911. those two men ran off. if you have any information, you're asked to call police. well, the man who plays elmo is cleared. kevin clash's accuser is now recanting that story. he claimed the puppeteer had sex with him when he was a minor. now he says that story is not true. clash is the puppeteer behind the sesame street character elmo. the baltimore native denied the allegations from the start. question 7 passed and now you can play games like black jack and poker in maryland's casinos. this will create 1200 jobs at the arundel mills location. this will also offer dealing trainer's school. for the first time since being reelected, the president will make himself available to the media. he's holding a news conference in the east room this afternoon. he's expected to talk about a number of issues, most importantly being the fiscal cliff. he'll meet with the vice

president beforehand and then hold a closed-door meeting with business leaders to talk about dproaing the economy. all of this, once again, set for this afople are still in the dark in long island two weeks after sandy hit and now the head of that power company is stepping down. mike herbie's resignation comes amid backlash of what's going on there. governor andrew cuomo announced special plans to have a committee investigate the utility and a group of long island residents filed a class action lawsuit against lipa for response to how they've handled sandy. the biggest casualty from sandy here in our state was ocean city's famous fishing pier. but the mayor assures us it may be rebuilt in time for the summer 2013 season. it will be no easy task, though, as the majority of that damage was done on the end of the pier, the part that is now in the water. workers will have to battle the surf as they try to replace those beams. well, it may not have been a first, but baltimore is now still beaming with pride from

we are very cold, these temperatures below average. we should be around 37, 38 for a low temperature and we're going to stay below average as we go into the afternoon. and actually through the week. i'm going to show you the seven- day in just a second. let's look what's going on on the satellite and radar. not a whole lot. we did have the cold front move through the area, we have a few clouds in pennsylvania right now, but all in all lots of sunshine as we head through the rest of today. so this is what we can expect. yesterday we started out windy but died down. that front passed through, now we're just left with high pressure, chilly conditions as we go throughout the day and it is going to be dry outside. so be prepared for that. make sure you have the big coat this morning and keep it around even as you go into the afternoon. you are going to need it. we're also going to be dealing with high pressure as we go through the next several days. so if you can't get out there today, enjoy it, you will maybe to pier through your window. look for dry conditions and sunshine for the next couple of days. futuretrend picking up exactly on what i'm talking about.

no clouds out there, no type of rain to talk about. we will see some rain in the forecast as we go towards the end of the weekend and into next week. but this is your planner throughout the day. i'm going to with a high temperature of around 49 degrees. in the next few days, 55 degrees by friday, still below average and this is what we're looking at as we go to sunday and also monday. 52 degrees with some rain. let's get a check now of the abc 2 news time saver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. we are dealing with some fog in fredrick, so if you are traveling, do expect reduced visibility. definitely want to turn on the low beams this morning. we do have an accident in baltimore county, it's right along the eastbound lanes of route 7 at mayflower road. now, if you are traveling 95, no delays heading downtown. it's going to take you 15 minutes traveling southbound from the beltway all the way into the city, everything is up to speed traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel as well as the harbor tunnel. as we check in and take a live look downtown. here's what 95 looks like. you can see traffic moving right along, no problems to report. and the beltway going to be in great shape. here's what it looks like in

parkville at hartford road. perfect conditions, 11 minutes to travel the outer loop from 95 all the way up to 83 and the inner loop nice and clear down towards 95. charley, over to you. 5:15 this morning. and speaking of those roads, neighbors say it's dangerous and it's no stranger to accidents at all. it's deadly. people drive too fast and now baltimore county needs to do something to fix it. that's what people are saying about windsor mill road. they said that at a meeting when -- with police and highway officials last night. they showed a survey taken in september in which most neighbors say the road is a very big problem. complaints include speeding drivers, noisy vehicles, deadly accidents and even cars running into people's houses. >> we want the councilmen, the bureau of highways and our local police to hear the stories of the residents who live along the roadside and what they put up with. >> now, with that laundry list of issues, hard to believe this is just the beginning of the dialogue. it's not yet clear what the next step will be. now there's a push to increase the tobacco tax even

more in our state. maryland healthcare for all coalition is scheduled to join the montgomery county executive for a news conference to talk about raising another dollar. right now it's $2 a pack that tax increase. advocates say this has decreased smoking in the state and a higher tax would continue along that line. the catholic church will never comply with the healthcare mandate to provide birth control coverage in health insurance. that's the word from cardinal timothy dolan following a bishop's conference in baltimore. dolan says bishops will continue to challenge the requirements to the legislature and in court and houses of worship are exempt from the rule, but religiously- affiliated hospitals and nonprofits are not. the obama administration has offered an accommodation, but many religious leaders say so far that accommodation is not workable. could bullying be the result of a mental health problem? we're going to tell you what doctors are saying this morning about bullies and a possible link it could have to blaiferl disorders. and -- behavioral disorders. is facebook now working to define your relationship?

news time 5:20. children identified as bullies were more likely to be diagnosed with mental health problems. that's according to some new research. those diagnosed specifically with depression were three times more likely to bully. those diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder were hostile and angry in behavior often directed toward authority figures. they were six times more likely to be diagnosed as a bully. >> these are kids who are hurting. bullies don't intentionally act out on other children. they can't control their behavior, and, you know, parents need to deal with it, schools need to deal with it, and it's a real problem nationwide. >> dr. lana a shulty says sthees children often need professional help to better

control their behavior. some schools are already offering programs to help deal with bullying and today at the high school they are launching an anti-bullying initiative. students will take part in an assembly and take a pledge to prevent bullying. a roundtable discussion will select students and staff to occur after that assembly. hip-hop artist and actor from "the wire" trey cheney will be there. he'll be showing kids a song, encouraging them to say no to bullying called "stand up for the future." it's known for better ingredients, better pizza, and, of course, peyton manning. now papa john's may find itself in the salt after customers say they were hounded by endless spam texts. we'll take a look. and she was one of the top doctors in her field. now she's charged with dwi after a multi-car crash. we'll have the details. and maryland's most powerful radar is bone dry, but there is some wet weather in the forecast. i'll tell you when that comes in coming up. >>reporter: well, lynette, everything is up to speed here on interstate 70 just west of

papa john's pizza has been delivering more than just pizza. customers nationwide have filed a $250 million class action lawsuit because they say the popular pizza chain has sent out half a million unwanted spam texts. those messages offered pizza deals that some customers say they got as many as 16 in a row, some of them the night. the plaintiffs are seeking $500 per text but they could get $1500 per text if a jury rules that papa john's wilfully broke the law. despite all of that, the papa john's text, apparently text messaging is on the decline, at least for one month. for the first time in u.s. history, the number of monthly texts fell. now, that's got some saying they're considering the average cell phone customer sends out around 675 texts a month. that is a bunch, compared to 700 they were sending earlier in the year. but we're not seeing any less communication, they're just finding cheaper ways to do it. despite texting, more of us are

using apps like skype, google voice and facebook messenger. if you're married or dating, your relationship may have moved to an entirely new level and you didn't know anything about it. facebook has now taken information by users of what they're saying in the relationship and they've created a page for you whether or not you wanted it. the page features shared posts, details and photos where you're both tagged. facebook calls it a new tool. one user said she was ready to break up with her husband on facebook just to make that page go away. it was a dramatic scene in one neighborhood. coming up we're going to show you how erupting in flames after an airplane comes crashing through. we'll have the harrowing details of this, and there is a survivor from this story. and, sure, we've had our share of water main breaks throughout baltimore city, but this takes it to an entirely new level. we're going to show you what happens when the ground gives way to all that rushing water. >>reporter: good morning. topping america's money, another economic controversy. the federal budget deficit last

month was $120 billion, 22% more than a year ago. that would be an annual deficit of more than a trillion dollars for the fifth straight year. toyota is recalling almost 3 million cars worldwide because of steering and water pump problems. the two recalls cover more than a dozen models including the prius, about a million of them sold in the u.s. sources tell bloomberg news u.s. airways presented a detailed merger plan to american's creditors yesterday, but american would rather exit bankruptcy as an independent carrier and will make its case to its creditors today. mark your calendars, the best days to shop are the monday, tuesday, wednesday and thursday after turkey day. the latest of these light days at the stores is december 11th. after that you'll be fighting those huge crowds. that's america's money. i'm rob nelson.
